Experience

**In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to in-person options, I'm also offering online tutoring via Zoom, Skype, or Google Duo. I look forward to meeting your child's educational needs!** I am a licensed teacher (PreK-6) with fifteen years of certified teaching experience...and counting. I have taught 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades. I am in my eighth year of serving as an elementary reading and math intervention teacher. I've also served as a K-5 math consultant at an area public school. Prior to all of that, I tutored elementary age students during an after-school program for two years. I have also tutored K-12th grade students for two years through a non-profit organization. I am a resident of the beautiful New Kent County, where I grew up in a family with five siblings. Although we didn’t have much materially, we always had an abundance of the belief that one’s current state doesn’t have to determine one’s destiny. Through education, the great equalizer, the possibilities truly are endless! I am a hard worker who motivates children to also strive for their personal best. I will do this by first giving your child a brief assessment to gain information about his/her learning style as well as their likes and hobbies. This data will arm me with information on how to best reach your child. I get joy out of motivating and empowering students by relating material to their life, using cross-curricular instruction, and approaching lessons in a variety of ways (music/chants, movement, graphic organizers, and humor to state a few). I want your child to learn for the sake of self-empowerment (inside and outside of the classroom) and for enhancing the lives of people around them--and I want him/her to have fun while doing it! :-) For an added plus, as a certified teacher, I have access to numerous academic materials in my personal library. I design targeted lessons to fit the unique needs of each individual student. Please contact me so that I can become an agent in unlocking your child’s potential! Hobbies

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, reading, exercising, cooking (especially baking breads and participating in contests), being outdoors, listening to music (especially live music), cheering on the VCU Rams' basketball team, and sharing a good laugh. I also have a love for arts and crafts. During my senior year of high school, I was voted "most artistic". I've recently merged my artistic and teaching talents to create hand crafted, motivating bookmarks. These bookmarks appeal to students of all ages and are now available for the market. They make great gifts--especially when you opt to have them personalized!
